Local Atlantic Avenue Businesses Win Best Festive Window Decorations

Brooklyn, NY- December 6, 2021- The Annual Atlantic Avenue Window Judging Competition, presented by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) took place on a unseasonably warm evening on December 1, 2021 at 6:30pm. Local businesses from Fourth Avenue to Hicks Street were asked to adorn their storefront windows with festive decorations for the holiday season. The winners chosen would receive prizes- 1st Place- $500, 2nd Place- $250, 3rd Place- $150, and Best Tree- $100. There would be honorable mentions awarded as well for the window displays that were beautifully done. Each business would receive a certificate naming their ranking to be displayed at their store.

The judges and AALDC Co-Vice President Sue Wolfe strolled Atlantic Avenue admiring over 20 local businesses’ creativity on what the holidays represent for them. Various holiday themes were on display from Mr. and Mrs. Claus smiling, frosted windows to mimic cold temperatures, twinkling lights to illuminate the block, and nutcrackers standing tall.

The judges dined at al Badawi, a new family-owned Palestinian restaurant at 151 Atlantic Avenue. They enjoyed delicious cuisine and chose this year’s best windows. First place went to Collier West, 377A Atlantic Avenue for their glowing, whimsical greenery display around their three store fronts. Second Place went to Betty Bakery, 448 Atlantic Avenue for their snowy depiction of a neighborhood and Hanukkah theme. Third Place went to Michele Varian for her creative, dream-like window display featuring pillows and stuffed animals. ‘Best Tree’ was awarded to Parlor, an eco-friendly hair salon in Boerum Hill, 442 Atlantic Avenue for their copper toned holiday tree. Honorable Mentions went to Little L’s Pet Bakery, a cute and cozy pet bakery and boutique, 311 Atlantic Avenue and Sahadi’s, a long standing family-owned Middle Eastern grocery store, 187 Atlantic Avenue.

Holidays on Atlantic Avenue sponsors include St. Francis College, Out of the Closet, Miss Jessie’s, Apple Bank, New York Society of Play, Sahadi’s, and World Explorers Group.
