Holiday Events on Atlantic Avenue Bring Cheer and Special Deals to All

Brooklyn, New York– December 11, 2019 -Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) celebrated with various events and programming in December. Visitors to the avenue enjoyed shopping and dining between 4th Avenue to Hicks Street with special deals and offers from local businesses during the ‘Walk the Windows’ Event.

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, patrons were able to spend the day walking along Atlantic Avenue enjoying free holiday-themed events from merchants and lively indoor performances from Crunch and singers. Free events included Wine Tasting from Grape Hill Liquors at 501A Atlantic Avenue, Live Music and Holiday Treats from ARCO New York Hair Salon at 385 Atlantic Avenue and Free School Tour from CHALK Preschool of Cobble Hill at 112 Atlantic Avenue. Santa happily walked down the avenue to greet and take photos with excited children and adults. 

This year’s Annual Atlantic Avenue Holiday Window Judging Competition was held on Tuesday, December 3rd. The judges walked along Atlantic Avenue to view holiday decorated windows and choose the winners. This year’s judges were notable artists Karen Gibbons, Deborah Kass, Chris Piazza, Diana Jensen, and Patricia Cronin. This year’s awards went to First Place, Optimum Health Physical Therapy located at 477 Atlantic Avenue, Second Place, Out of the Closet located at 475 Atlantic Avenue and Third Place, Collier West located at 377A Atlantic Avenue. The Honorable Mentions were Sahadi’s, 187 Atlantic Avenue for “If You Weren’t Here We Would All Cry/Traditional,” Barber’s Philosophy, 74 Nevins Street for “Best Groomed,” Someday Bar, 364 Atlantic Avenue for “Best Humor (Drunk Santa),” and The Sterling School, 134 Atlantic Avenue for “Most Adorable.”

Atlantic Avenue’s 2019 Window Winners were announced during the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony & Party on December 5th. Children, families, and community leaders gathered at St. Cyril Belarusian Church from 6-8pm for a night filled with performances from local public schools: P.S.38 The Pacific School, P.S. 8 The Robert Fulton School, P.S. 261 Phillip Livingston, International Charter School of New York (ICS), Public School 133 and Brooklyn High School of the Arts. Also, there were sponsor giveaways, prizes and a visit from Santa Claus. Refreshments and small bites, all donated from local Atlantic Avenue businesses, were served to the guests as they enjoyed a dance party from DJ Tyler B from Infinity Music Entertainment.

AALDC celebrates its Annual Holiday Toy Drive with supporting local homeless shelters Providence House and Arbor Inn. AALDC also partnered with Councilman Stephen Levin for his Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Toy Donations will be given to children living in the Gowanus, Wyckoff and Warren House.

The deals are still happening on Atlantic Avenue.
