Deck the Halls: Atlantic Avenue Edition- Community Tree Lighting Ceremony, Photos with Santa, and Fun Children’s Arts & Crafts

Brooklyn, NY- November 18, 2021– Atlantic Avenue comes alive for the holiday season. As the temperatures become cooler, the avenue is electrified with holiday lights and magic. The historical lamp posts from Fourth Avenue to Hicks Street are adorned with green and gold glitter garland and velvet red ribbons and bows. The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) will host their annual holiday events with the addition of a new activity for children. On Tuesday, November 23rd from 6-6:30pm, the community is invited to attend the outdoor Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event is free to the public and will be held at the St. Cyril of Turov Belarusian Church, located at 401 Atlantic Avenue.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be officiated by Councilman Stephen Levin, Member-elect of the New York City Council for 33rd District Lincoln Restler, and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Randy Peers at 6pm sharp. To help us bring holiday joy to the avenue, The Boerum Hill Chapter of the Girl Scouts will lead the countdown to the tree lighting. This will be followed by a performance from the Brooklyn High School of the Arts Choir singing a melody of Christmas classics for all to enjoy.

The holiday fun on Atlantic Avenue continues as the AALDC invites everyone to take advantage of the two weeks of special deals and promotions from local businesses, as part of the Shop & Dine Promotion. Starting November 27th-December 12th, Atlantic Avenue merchants will offer 10% selected items and/or other special deals within their businesses for any gift ideas. As the festive windows decorate the avenue, patrons will be able to partake in AALDC’s ‘Walk the Windows’ from November 27- December 12th. Participating Atlantic Avenue businesses will host in-store holiday themed events & offers from 11am-7pm. The specials include $4 hot cider & hot chocolate at Someday Bar, 364 Atlantic Avenue, Cookies and Tea at Iris Lingerie, 323 Atlantic Avenue, live Arabian Music at Al Badawi, 151 Atlantic Avenue Thursday-Saturday, 7pm-9pm. For the first time, AALDC is introducing a fun activity for kids. On Saturday, December 4th from 12-3pm, all parents and guardians are asked to bring their kids for the Children’s Party with Santa. Children can bring their own ornaments from home to be displayed on the fences, both inside and outside the vibrant brooklyn garden. AALDC will have ornaments on hand as well. Santa will greet and take selfies with the children to provide a lasting memory. While the children let their creativity shine, there will be music and entertainment to provide joyous tunes in Brooklyn and if we’re good Santa will appear. Plus, holiday reading is here. There will be ‘Give a Book, Take a Book,’where the community can drop off a wrapped or unwrapped book and in exchange, pick up a mystery book to take home.

The holiday season is not complete without the jolly man himself. On Saturday, December 11th, 12-3pm, Spot Santa on the Avenue as he makes stops at local businesses to take pictures and say hello. Reusable Shop & Dine tote bags will be distributed by AALDC along the avenue for patrons to support local businesses and find the perfect gifts for the family and friends.
