Atlantic Avenue Shined for the Holiday Season with Events and Deals for the Community


Brooklyn, New York– December 13, 2018 -Holiday season along Atlantic Avenue proved to be a success. The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) celebrated with the holiday season with events for all ages. Visitors to the avenue enjoyed shopping and dining between 4th Avenue to Hicks Street with special deals and offers from local businesses during the ‘Walk the Windows’ Event.


On Saturday, December 8th, 2018, patrons were able to spend the day walking along Atlantic Avenue enjoying free holiday-themed events from merchants and lively outdoor performances by the Atlantic Avenue Holiday Tree. Batala New York did a drum performance and Brooklyn Music School caroled down the avenue. Free events included Aveda Comforting Tea and Hand Relief Treatments from Parlor at 442 Atlantic Avenue, Cocktails with Hella Cocktails from Whisk at 197 Atlantic Avenue, and Free Hot Chocolate & Mini Cookies from Sahadi’s at 187 Atlantic Avenue. Santa kept smiles on everyone’s face that passed by as he spread holiday cheer and stopped to greet and take photos with excited children.


This year’s Annual Atlantic Avenue Holiday Window Judging Competition was held on Wednesday, November 28th. The judges walked along Atlantic Avenue to view holiday decorated windows and to choose the winners. This year’s judges were Lynn Nottage, Jill Eisenstadt, Gilbert Ford, and Mara Lethem. This year’s awards went to First Place, Collier West located at 377A Atlantic Avenue, Second Place, Collyer’s Mansion located at  179 Atlantic Avenue and Third Place, Brooklyn Robot Foundry located at 492 Atlantic Avenue. The Honorable Mention was given to Emelle MD, located at 103 Bond Street.


Atlantic Avenue’s 2018 Window Winners were announced during the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony & Party on December 6th. Children, families, and community leaders gathered at St. Cyril Belarusian Church from 6-8pm for a night filled with performances from local public schools: P.S.38 The Pacific School, P.S. 8 The Robert Fulton School, and Brooklyn High School of the Arts. Also, there were sponsor giveaways, prizes and a visit from the jolly man in red himself, Santa Claus. Refreshments and small bites, all donated from local Atlantic Avenue businesses, were served to the guests as they enjoyed a dance party from DJ Frank Posa from Powerhouse Entertainment.


AALDC celebrates its Annual Holiday Toy Drive with supporting Providence House, local homeless shelters. The AALDC also partnered with Councilman Stephen Levin for his Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Toy Donations will be given to children living in the Gowanus, Wyckoff and Warren House.


The AALDC invites everyone to take advantage of the special deals and promotions provided by the businesses along Atlantic Avenue for the Shop & Dine Promotion. Take a stroll down the avenue to buy Christmas gifts until with 10 percent off and/or other special deals until Saturday, December 15th.
