Atlantic Avenue Brings Joy to the Holiday Season with Events & Offers

Brooklyn, NY– ‘Tis the season to explore Atlantic Avenue! The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) will host their annual holiday events this upcoming holiday season! On Friday, December 1st between 6-8pm, families from the community are invited to enjoy the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Party. This free event will take place at the St. Cyril of Turov Belarusian Church, located at 401 Atlantic Avenue.

The Tree Lighting Party will begin with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony officiated by New York City Council Member Stephen T. Levin promptly at 6pm. Attendees will be able to kick off the holiday season and enjoy live performances from local public schools including International Charter School of New York, P.S 38, P.S 261 and the Brooklyn High School of the Arts. With the arrival of Special Guest, Santa Claus, visitors will be able to enjoy the festive mood throughout the night. Music will be provided by DJ Frank Posa. This event is open to the public.

Following the live musical performances, attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments and complimentary small bites donated by some of our local Atlantic Avenue Merchants: Sultan Restaurant & Cafe Lounge, Luzzo’s BK, Brado Thin Crust Pizza, Mitoushi Sushi, Sahadi’s, Trader Joe’s,The Soul Spot Restaurant, Betty Bakery, Hollow Nickel and Moon Cafe.

During the party, the AALDC will announce the 2017 Atlantic Avenue Holiday Window Judging Competition winners. On Wednesday, November 29th five judges will travel along the avenue and view the wonderfully wintry designs from participating Atlantic Avenue merchants’ windows. This year’s judges will be Albert Chau, owner of Grumpy Bert Art Gallery, Roma Karas, Artist & Illustrator, Aaron Meshon, Artist & Illustrator, Donald Odell, Director of Brand Product Management at Calvin Klein and Debra Ziss, Artist & Illustrator. Adding to the fun and excitement, the AALDC invites all to explore the avenue as they enjoy special deals & promotions from local businesses as part of the Shop & Dine Promotion. Beginning December 2nd-16th, Atlantic Avenue merchants will offer 10% off selected items and/or other specials within their business for any last minute gift ideas.

As the festive windows decorate the avenue, patrons will be able to enjoy AALDC’s ‘Walk the Windows’ event on Saturday, December 9th. Visitors can enjoy 10 blocks filled with holiday spirit as participating Atlantic Avenue businesses host several free holiday themed events & offers such as workshops and holiday treats from 11am-7pm. The AALDC continues to support the Providence House and the 84th Precinct Toy Drive this year for the Annual Holiday Toy Drive. This annual tradition will benefit women and children living in local shelters throughout the holiday season. Toys will also be donated to the Gowanus & Warren Street Houses in collaboration with Council Member Stephen Levin. Participating Atlantic Avenue merchants will have toy boxes throughout the season until December 7th where visitors will be able to bring unwrapped toys for the Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Attendees for the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Party are asked to contribute by donating an unwrapped gift.
