Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation Holds Elections
Welcomes New President and Executive Director
Revitalized Board and Committees
Brooklyn, New York – March 8, 2005 - The Atlantic Avenue
Local Development Corporation is pleased to announce its new Board
of Directors, Executive Committees and Executive Director. The
following persons were elected to serve on its 2005 – 2008 Board
of Directors: Ian Kelley, Esq., President; David Winterle, Vice
President; Candace P. Damon, Treasurer; and Donna Walcavage, Nancy
McKiernan, Sue Wolfe, Bernie Ehrlich, Ken Diamondstone, Karen
Zebulon, Kelly Spitler, Sam Barbieri, and Lisa McGarry as members
of the Board of Directors. This Board is composed of local business
and home owners, tenants, experts in economic development and
urban planning and design, realtors, and community activists.
Ian L. Kelley,
Esq., the new President, replaces Candace Damon who served as
President for the past four years. Kelley, who serves on two committees
of the New York County Lawyers Association, is President-elect
of the National Center for Creative Aging based in Fort Greene,
is a partner in Lee & Kelley, LLP, which specializes in corporate,
securities and real estate matters. Kelley graduated from St.
Ann’s in Brooklyn Heights and went on to Middlebury College. He
later received his law degree from Fordham University School of
Law in 1996, where he served as Notes and Articles Editor of the
Fordham International Law Journal.
Kelley, and
his wife, Joanna, both grew up in Park Slope. After residing in
Manhattan for some years, they moved back to the downtown Brooklyn
area when their son, Nicholas, was born 2 ˝ few years ago. Kelley
joined the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corp. in 2003 and
also serves as a member of the Community Advisory Committee of
the Leadership Prep Charter School in Brooklyn and is a member
of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. His wife Joanna, a landscape
architect specializing in townhouse backyards, also serves as
the Co-Chair of the Greening Committee of the Boerum Hill Association.
The Atlantic
Avenue Local Development Corp.’s committees, which encompass key
issues in the Downtown Brooklyn area, include the House of Detention,
the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Avenue Integrity, and Hoyt-Schermerhorn
Improvement.
The Atlantic
Avenue Local Development Corporation, originally formed in
1974, is a not-for-profit organization committed to the economic
development of the Atlantic Avenue area from Fourth Avenue to
the East River waterfront in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to
producing the Atlantic Antic, one of New York City’s major cultural
attractions, and other special events, the organization’s activities
include implementation of streetscape improvements, historic storefront
preservation, and advocacy on issues of importance to the retail
and residential community. The Atlantic Avenue Local Development
Corp. is charged with bringing to fruition the Atlantic Avenue
Master Plan which was conceived by the Atlantic Avenue Leadership
Conference, a collaboration of 50 local community groups and businesses
including the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation.
