BROOKLYN'S SIXTH ANNUAL ATLANTIC AVENUE ARTWALK INVITES THE PUBLIC TO HELP SUPPORT OUR ARTISTIC COMMUNITY AND GET STIMULATED BY THEIR ART!
Free Event – June 6 & 7, 2009 – Showcases neighborhood Artists and Their Work in Private Studios, Interactive Exhibits, Walking Tours, Public Art Exhibits and Other Non-Traditional Venues Along Atlantic Avenue
The 2009 Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk celebrates its sixth anniversary by showcasing over 200 artists in an interactive and participatory celebration of art along Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue, Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 2009 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm each day.
ArtWalk09's theme is community stimulus – providing a creative way to strengthen the heart and soul of the community, the artists, making them and their art accessible to all attendees. At the same time the artists give back to the attendees by opening doors to their personal workspaces, offering sneak peeks of exciting innovative new projects, and providing a rare meet and greet with the artists free of charge.
This recession-friendly event brings art to the streets, offering opportunities for art lovers to par rouse and collect, as well as indulge in neighborhood shops and dine on local delicacies all in the name of art. Neighborhood restaurants and merchants are joining in on this special event and contributing to local development by offering discounts for attendees and participants of the ArtWalk.
This event provides high quality programming at a price we all can afford, free! Programming includes interactive workshops, open studio tours, public art projects, special events and in some cases, actually playing a role in the creation of works of art.

[this is 2008 quote]“In just five years Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk has grown from just a few artists to an incredibly diverse weekend-long event providing a unique venue for people to discover new artists and directly interact with some of the most exciting and influential artists who live and work right here in the heart of Brooklyn,” said founder and event producer, Lisa Shimamura of Colab Projects. “With the help of our sponsors, including the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) and Atlantic Avenue Betterment Association (AABA), and through our ongoing partnership with BWAC Open Studio tours the same weekend, the combined events feature the work of well over 500 artists – the largest event of its kind in Brooklyn.”
This year's participating artists have exhibited in a diverse array of institutions including MoMA, the New Museum, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), Art Basel, London Fashion & Textile Museum, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Dyezu Experiment Gallery Tokyo, Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, Contemporary African Art Gallery, Metaphor Contemporary Art, New York Watercolor Society, and Brooklyn Museum, and include David Ellis, Mac Premo, Mike Houston, Martin Mazorra, Donato Giancola, Chris Piazza, Travis Roozee, and many more.
